President Donald Trump announced Sunday a left-wing organization he thinks are leading the violence at anti-police brutality protests will be officially labeled as terrorists.
“The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization,” Trump said in a tweet.
Following Trump’s tweet, Attorney General William Barr said in a statement that “federal law enforcement actions will be directed at apprehending and charging the violent radical agitators who have hijacked peaceful protest.”
Barr added: “The violence instigated and carried out by Antifa and other similar groups in connection with the rioting is domestic terrorism and will be treated accordingly.”
The clashes, spreading to dozens of cities across the U.S., follow a series of racist incidents and deaths of black people, including Floyd’s on Monday.
